Confusion over ‘My December’ 2nd Single

Monday, July 16th, 2007

In an interview earlier today with ABC News Radio, Kelly was asked what her next single will be to which she responded: “’sober’ or ‘how i feel’ (we) are kind of tossed up in the air right now between the two songs.”

Add to that, this was found at The Express posted by a drummer who worked on the album: I am a record producer and touring drummer named Dwight Baker. I have played and worked with Enrique Iglesias/Kelly Clarkson/Brandi Carlile/Heart/Loni Rose/Na Leo/Vallejo/Podunk/Bascom Hill/A New Revolution/Northmont/Furthest From the Star/Honestly/Kazi/Mary Lou Lord/Retrograde/Treble/Trish Murphy/Zykos/Doubting Paris/Lennex/Makana/1 Crush/ Bleu Edmonson/Alpha Rev..etc…. I own and operate a recording studio in Austin Texas as well called Matchbox Studios..check it out at matchbox-studios.com I am currently working on 2 more tracks for ALana Grace..also writing 3 cuts for jesse macartney…lastly my 4 songs did make the kelly clarkson record my december. One of them called how i feel is going to be the next single sometime in august so make sure you request and buy it..Lots..ha

Hmm. Who knows what is going on but they better decide quickly and sort out what is quickly because a disastrous mess. A single needs to be set in stone and pushed tomorrow, not August. What happened to the team that did such a stunning job with the Breakaway singles? RCA needs an overhaul because Kelly isn’t the only act whose single releases and timings have been atrocious.

Kelly attends ‘Because of You’ girl’s musical

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

Per her keyboardist/girl’s father’s blog:

.: last night was kennedy’s first performance as mulan … i think i answered a question earlier about how i’m more nervous in front of small crowds than large … well, kennedy is just like me then … i thought she was gonna puke all day … Grammy Awards, live TV, no problem … 100 parents in a high school auditorium, frightening …

anyway, it all went off great … i know you’ll think, ah, he’s biased cause he’s the dad, but i was blown away by her singing … seriously, never heard her sing like that at home …

and yes, her evening was made by k showing up … we were blown away that she made the hour trip during traffic to sit in a auditorium full of kids and parents who mobbed her during intermission …

For those of you who aren’t that quick, “k” stands for Kelly. But really, all snark aside, what other celebrity in this world would do such a thing? Kelly is one-of-a-kind.

HITS Projections for ‘My December’ Week 3

Friday, July 13th, 2007

BATTLE ROYALE: Next week’s chart will feature a knock-down, drag-out battle between a Dirty South rapper and a returning Pumpkin. Grand Hustle/Atlantic’s T.I. will go right down to the wire with Smashing Pumpkins’ Reprise return on next week’s HITS Album Sales Chart, both in the 160-170k range. Give the hip-hop icon a very, very slight edge as we head into the final turn. Disney’s Hannah Montana maintains nicely in the #3 slot with between 120-130k, while Interpol’s Capitol bow looks headed for a Top 5 bow at #4 with 75-80k and Merge’s Spoon makes an impressive Top 10 debut at #7 (50-55k). The rest of the Top 10 looks like this: Island’s Bon Jovi (#5, 55-60k), WB’s Linkin Park (#6, 55-60k), Universal Republic’s resilient Amy Winehouse (#8, 50-55k), RCA’s Kelly Clarkson (#9, 50-55k) and A&M/Interscope’s Fergie (#10, 45-50k). (7/13p)

It’s looking like another 50-60% drop which isn’t a good thing people! ‘Sober’ has got to take-off pronto!

KOI

KELLY CLARKSON - I believe this is the first time I have seen the sensational singer in person. I always enjoy capturing a celeb I have never seen before, so it was a nice experience. I was not surprised to find out that she was very pleasant. I asked her how she was doing. Kelly: “I’m great!” She told me she was pleased she did not get locked out of her car tonight. I told her she looked fantastic. “American Idol’s”most successful champ smiled broadly and waved goodnight. She certainly appreciates her great success and does not take it for granted. Kelly is a fine lady.

‘Sober’ starting to take-off!!

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Up to #71 on the Mediabase/CHR Pop chart with a bullet of +41. Kelly needs some of the big stations to start spinning this because her audience is till extremely low, however. It currently is at 0.267 million listener impressions.

Who needs a hit single? Not Kelly Clarkson.

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

At least according to this MTV News blurb:

Falling one spot this week to #3 is Kelly Clarkson’s new one, My December, which sold another 113,300 units, even after taking a 61 percent sales hit. Interestingly, Clarkson’s album, in just two weeks, has managed to outsell Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad, even without the benefit of a top 40 radio single. Clarkson’s disc has cleared the 405,000 mark, while Rihanna’s album, which has been in stores for five weeks and boasts the hit songs “Umbrella” and “Shut Up and Drive,” has sold just 382,600 units.

I think it’s a fair comparison. Especially after everything her label has said about hit songs and her not having any.

Single — Minded

An American Idol is learning her way may be the hard way.
By Alanna Nash

From Reader’s Digest
August 2007

Cords of Steel
For a chart-topping star, Kelly Clarkson is remarkably down-to-earth. Literally. An hour ago, the 25-year-old was basking in the adulation of 4,000 screaming fans in Burbank’s Johnny Carson Park. Now she’s sprawled on her dressing room floor, wolfing down an energy bar. “I’m sorry to be eating,” she says in her slight Texas drawl. “I just haven’t had a chance to grab anything.”

Life’s like that these days for Clarkson, who, after winning the Fox Network’s 2002 American Idol competition, has grabbed two Grammys and sold nearly 15 million records. Her newest CD, My December, reveals a sharper, darker edge. When record executives balked, she fought back — and won the right to define her sound. But with ticket sales slow, Clarkson budged and canceled her summer tour days before My December’s scheduled release, saying that it was “too much, too soon.” Was it?

Just under five-foot-four, Clarkson has proved to be one determined powerhouse. She grew up the youngest of three in Burleson, a Fort Worth suburb. When she was six, her parents divorced, and music became her refuge. It wasn’t until she hit her teens that she realized it could be her salvation. Her voice — “cords of steel,” said one music instructor — has made her millions, and given her a sense of control in her life that she’d never dreamed of.

And even though Idol hit maker Simon Cowell has said that Clarkson has “one of the best pop voices in the world right now,” much of her charm comes from her everyday approachability. “I’m really not that interesting,” she says. When RD sat down with her — yes, on the floor — we found out otherwise.

RD: You said being on American Idol was one of the best and worst times.
Clarkson: It was definitely one of the best. I had so much fun. But at the same time, I have never been that tired in my entire life.

RD: You’ve also said you went through a bout of depression shortly after that.
Clarkson: There came a point when it hit me: I have nowhere I’d want to go on this planet where people don’t know me. And I’d been going for two years, touring and promoting. It just caught up with me. I had good people around me, but all the nice people in the world can’t help you when you’re that down. So I took some time and went on vacation with my friends and family, kind of called it quits. I have no desire to be the biggest star on the planet. You can keep it, Madonna.
